Our History
1975 – Our Start
In 1975, Zahran Holding was founded by Sheikh Ghurmallah R. AlZahrani under the name Zahran Operation & Maintenance Company (ZOMC). Initially the company specialized in providing maintenance, agricultural, hygiene, and trade services.
Through determination and ambition, ZOMC built and grew its classification rating and in turn bid on and secured bigger and more complex Operations and Management (O&M) contracts.
In a short period of time, ZOMC had executed and completed a significant number of contracts with the government and private sectors and succeeded in being named as one of the most prominent private companies for its exceptional performance and achievements.
1988 – A Visible Transformation
ZOMC capitalized on the shift in markets, demand, and customer aspirations, taking on the role of a government‐like entity, vying to meet the ever‐growing market demand for O&M services in Saudi Arabia. ZOMC expanded its O&M services to cover various types of sectors and to extend its reach across the Kingdom. Its clients included: the Ministry of Health (hospitals and clinics); the Ministry of Defense & Aviation (military bases and barracks); the Ministry of Education (universities and residential complexes); and the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (city works and hygiene services).
Over time, ZOMC grew to become one of the largest and leading Saudi companies in the field of O&M, providing services for the government and private sectors across various fields. The company’s rapid and steady growth is attributed to its efficiency, superior quality, and exceptional service.
1995 – A New Beginning
The rapid development experienced by Saudi Arabia during the mid 90s and the consequent growth in demand for varied services and products, gave way to the creation of Zahran Holding. Under its umbrella, Zahran Holding formed a number of specialized companies operating in the following fields: general trading; construction and contracting; security services; healthcare and medical services; environment and regulation services; and supply services.
These companies distinguished themselves through their selection of national cadres with the highest level of expertise that is familiar with and has dealt with the various techniques and standards adopted globally. At that time, Zahran Holding was ranked 67th on the list of the 100 largest companies in the Saudi Arabia.
2005 – A Global Breakthrough
In 2005, Zahran Holding’s Board of Directors, with the support of its Chairman Sheikh Ghurmallah R. Al Zahrani, launched the ambitious plan of “Zahran ‐ From Local to Global”. The plan envisioned the transformation of Zahran Holding from a local entity to a global enterprise with multinational dimensions.
That vision translated into the relaunch of Zahran Holding Company as a multiline conglomerate with numerous assets in various sectors. With sound planning and quick execution, Zahran Holding Company embarked upon a new era by entering into the following business operations: real estate investment and development; financial investment; ICT; energy development; media and advertising; and project management.
To consolidate its operations across its varied operations, Zahran Holding forged strategic alliances with international companies with the aim of securing and growing its operations. Today, Zahran Holding employees number more than 20,000 highly skilled and qualified individuals. In 2007, the Group was ranked 26th amongst the largest 100 companies in Saudi Arabia.
